It’s been a while since we completed the 10 episodes of season 1, but we’re now ready to proceed with Season 2!
Episode S2 E1 – Into Exile covers the three fraught days between the Reichstag Fire and the family’s arrival in Switzerland. Release date 15 April 2025.
Episode S2 E2 – Seven Years in France gives an overview of this lengthy settled-unsettled period from three angles: Döblin the family man, Döblin the activist, and Döblin the writer. Release date 1 May 2025.
Episode S2 E3 – Escape from France covers the tense months in 1940 as the Germans invade and escape seems not at all certain. Release date 15 May 2025.
Further episodes will cover the California years (including a year in Hollywood); the return to devastated Europe; the slowly growing recognition of Döblin’s place in literary history; and probably a couple of bonus episodes.
